Restoration of Rights Project
  • Restoration of Rights Project

    azplak

CCRC and its partner organizations NACDL, NLADA and the National HIRE Network are pleased to offer a state-by-state analysis of the law and practice in each U.S. jurisdiction relating to restoration of rights and status following arrest or conviction. These jurisdictional “profiles” cover areas such as loss and restoration of civil rights and firearms rights, judicial and executive mechanisms for avoiding or mitigating collateral consequences, and provisions addressing non-discrimination in employment and licensing. Links to many original sources are included. The information in each profile is summarized here, followed in each case by a link to the full profile.

In addition to the jurisdictional profiles, there is a set of 50-state comparison charts that make it possible to see national patterns in restoration laws and policies. We expect to supplement these resources in weeks to come with a list of organizations that may be able to assist individuals in securing relief.

These reference materials are intended as a resource for practitioners in all phases of the criminal justice system, for courts, for civil practitioners assisting clients whose court-imposed sentence has exposed them to additional civil penalties, for policymakers and advocates interested in reentry and reintegration of convicted persons, and for the millions of Americans with a criminal record who are seeking to put their past behind them.

These resources may be republished as long as appropriate attribution is given to this source.

Please Read: COVID-19 & Registry

In this trying time we want to reiterate a few things for our registrants and families. We don't want there to be any confusion or penalties concerning registry requirements during the Coronavirus Pandemic.

Make sure you know current requirements. You can go to your Sheriff's Office website to see if there is new information there. If so, we suggest you do a screen print and save it. Call your registry office to get clarification on any questions you might have. Document the date, time, who you spoke with and their instructions regarding any address change, vehicle, employment, travel dates if required, etc.

Keep in mind if you are required to update your drivers license annually through the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) you should contact them for their status. Some are limiting the number of people allowed inside and you have to wait to receive a call from them and then come back inside. Document any instructions.

Be safe, be smart, stay healthy and know we will get through this.
