• WAR Joins California RSOL Protest

Recently Congress passed and President Obama signed International Megan’s Law. The new law allows a “unique identifier” to be added to the passports of registered citizens. The alarming thing about this law is the same as the public registry. There is simply no empirical evidence supporting a need for such punitive and humiliating action. Janice Bellucci, President of CA-RSOL, filed a lawsuit in federal court in California as well as a temporary injunction to stop implementation until the lawsuit was ruled on. Injunction denied.

A motion has been filed by the government to dismiss the lawsuit filed by Janice and her organization. The hearing will commence on Wednesday, July 27th at 9:00 AM in Courtroom 3, Judge Phyllis J. Hamilton, 3rd Floor, 1301 Clay Street, Oakland, California, 94612.

We are asking our WAR families and activists to come out and help the California organization fill the courtroom during the hearing. Please note any signs made for the activity after the hearing will not be allowed in the courthouse.

At the conclusion of the hearing, which should take about an hour, a peaceful protest will take place in the plaza directly in front of the entrance to the courthouse. Janice as well as CA-RSOL members and supporters will address the crowd. Media is expected to cover the event.

I hope this helps. There is a lot of chatter in the House in DC about the gun laws, this month; all from panic and knee jerk reactions to the mass shooting in Orlando. This is how the Registry got started, it was from National news focusing on a devastating occurrence which was, of course, tragic, but it was approached by politicians as a must do thing to attract attention to those politicians and to cater the “news-goers” in the general public.

I don’t think guns are the focus here nor are they controllable; so more laws will not help. I do think mental health is “controllable” so lets see more Political interest focused on this instead of adding more restriction.

Don’t get me wrong: we need restrictions where they count. Controlling the access to a weapon of mass killing is a good start. I am mostly commenting and concerned over the approach we, as Americans, take to situations when it looks like we HAVE to do something immediately and make bad choices.
